Austin Texas — The national smart meter debate went super-nova in the Texas House on Wednesday as concerned citizens voiced opinions over privacy infringement and health dangers associated with smart meters (Dallas News). More than one lawmaker voiced concerns that long-term health effects related to smart meters were sketchy at best. The main thrust of the debate was whether or not consumers should have a choice with regard to having smart meters installed. Some lawmakers have proposed that homeowners be given the option to reject smart meter installation by utility companies. Dangers to pace-maker patients was also discussed in the Texas House debate on smart meters. While some did suggest that these new technologically advanced meters help improve electricity usage, most argue that the risks far outweigh the benefits. One representative was quoted as saying that vulnerable citizens should be protected from the dangers of smart meters. Smart meters have been clearly shown to emit dangerous levels of electromagnetic frequencies.

A water meter lock is simply a lock that is used to prevent the normal flow of water through a typical water meter. The most common type of lock used for this type of application is a cylinder lock. The cylinder lock or barrel lock as it is often called is a cylindrical type lock that is inserted into the opening in the water meter locking assembly. It is usually an integral part of the shut-off valve on the meter assembly. Once installed the cylinder lock is very secure and difficult to cut or tamper with. Removal without the aid of the proper key designed specifically for cylinder or barrel locks is nearly impossible. These locks are generally resistant to water penetration and corrosion. The lock is a highly precision type lock that usually fits perfectly for its intended use and as such is the lock of choice for must water utility companies. Gas utilities and electrical utilities also take advantage of these versatile locks. Technicians and utility works appreciate the ease and speed with which these locks can be applied and removed.

The Uniqueness of the Barrel Lock

Posted by Charles on 20 March, 2013 at 13:35 Comments comments (0)

The Uniqueness of the Barrel Lock is in its clever design. It is the type of lock that is highly specialized for custom applications specifically for use with water meters, electrical panels, and gas utility applications. Their special design and intended use means that these locks are far less common than say a typical lock found at a local hardware store. The barrel lock or cylinder lock in turn requires a uniquely designed key that is often called a meter key. A barrel lock meter key or cylinder lock meter key is a specialized tool that has a plunger type action and a narrow pin that injects directly into the barrel lock to perform either the locking or unlocking function. One important distinction with regard to this special lock and meter key pair is that they are considered more precision as compared to other lock and key systems. Therefore it is always important for an individual to exercise care when locking or unlocking a barrel or cylinder lock.
