Using the right key to unlock a meter lock is important to insuring the integrity of that lock. There are a number of videos on YouTube that show how to attempt to open a meter lock with a #2 screw. We do not advise this practice or recommend this kind of activity. It will almost always result in damage to the meter lock. In fact, anything other than a genuine meter key designed specifically for the lock in question should be used. Once a meter lock is dammaged it will not function correctly and it may become necessary to cut the lock off with bolt cutters. Technicians can avoid this situation by only using approved meter keys.
